Wednesday Jun 05 Sunny, hot, & very windy Kimberley, BC
Over coffee yesterday morning, we decided that today we would head to Kimberley. Jen asked me if I wanted to bike the Northstar Rails to Trails from Kimberley back to Cranbrook - 28 kms. Always up for a challenge, I said "sure, sounds like fun."
First order of business in Kimberley was a stop at the Visitor Centre - I needed to know where the start of the bike trail was. After chatting with the resident expert in the VC, we headed for the bakery for coffee and a treat. It's just down at the end of the pedestrian area on the left.
On the walk back to Alfie, I couldn't resist taking this picture. We didn't go in to check out the "Other Fabulous Crap."
At the start of the bike trail is a map of the route.
I'll let the pictures I took along the 28 km do the talking. That's Marysville down to the right.
I hope you enjoyed a brief look at some of the scenery on this lovely 28 km trail.
From Kimberley, elevation 3,674' (1,120m) to Cranbrook, elevation 3,022 (921m), the trail drops 652' (199m). Sounds good doesn't it?! Pedal downhill all way - what fun.
What you missed today were the SSW winds clocking 30km coming pretty much right at me. Toss in a lot of sunshine (trees at the side of the trail in some places helped), but there was plenty of pedalling "out in the open".
Jen kept track of me, stopping at the various pullouts along the trail. At the last one, about 6 km from the end, I poured my water bottle over my head - boy did that feel good.
All in all, today's ride, the longest I have done in a long time, was fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Join us tomorrow for more fun and excitement.
