Monday Jun 10 Sunny, cloudy, & windy Creston, BC
After saying goodbye to Garnett and Rosie this morning, we headed southwest towards Creston BC. We took our time, stopped for coffee along the way, and arrived at Scottie's RV and Campground just after noon.
We're not far from the US border, in fact, when we checked in at Scottie's RV & Campground, Debbie told us that the border is just a few clicks away AND the price of gas is very cheap. Might just have to go check it out before we leave.
Garnett recommended Scottie's and we're sure glad he did. The sites are really nice. We are in the middle of three sites with no neighbours on either side right now.
Here we are as we drove to the office.
And here's our site.
Scottie's is right across the street from the Columbia Brewery, makers of Kokanee beer. I walked across to the tour centre to inquire about going on a tour one day. I showed Jen the paperwork when I returned. She commented that all tours were Pacific time. Creston is in the Mountain time zone. So what gives?
Turns out that during the winter, Creston observes Mountain time, but during the summer, it stays on Pacific time. If you look closely at a map of BC and Alberta, you will notice that the time zone "line" appears to go along, dare I say, the continental divide (where there is not much population), but then for some reason, when the line approaches "civilization" it heads west down the middle of Kootenay Lake and south just west of Creston. Why I have no idea. The bottom line is we gained an hour today. We're back on Pacific time.
We drove into town after dinner just to check the place out. We came across this. Who'da thought in a place like Creston??!!
We're here for 2 weeks so as we start to tour around, I will update the blog.
See you next time.
