Wednesday Jun 26 Cloudy & cool, sunny breaks Riondel, BC
Cool again overnight, but we were toasty and warm. Thank goodness we weren't able to drop off our oil radiator before we left the Island; it has come in very handy this trip!
This morning we walked to the front of the RV park and Red's Bakery. We enjoyed coffee and a couple of nice treats outside on the deck. We chatted with a new local - Mary - who has just moved to Crawford Bay from Sooke on Vancouver Island. Mary and her partner purchased 2 acres overlooking Kootenay Lake.
After coffee we drove to the ferry terminal then down the road to the Lighthouse Park. Jen had sussed out this park and found that the walk to the lighthouse was only about 1/4 mile. What the information didn't tell Jen was the 130' climb to the lighthouse itself!
To Jen's credit she made it to the Lighthouse and I know it wasn't easy for her.
We're looking west south west towards Balfour and the other ferry terminal - just behind the gap below.
On the way back, I took this picture looking down Pilot Bay.
Jen planned a day trip to Riondel just a short distance up the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake. As we approached the turn, I suggested today was a good day to go visit Riondel. Not much there - a small grocery store, a golf course, and a campground. We checked out the campground.
Oh, I almost forgot the mine that operated in Riondel years ago.
Okay, that'll do it for today. Join us tomorrow for more fun and excitement. I think we might venture into Crawford Bay and check out the artisans.
