Friday May 31 Sunny & hot (28C) Moyie Lake Provincial Park, BC
Well, after a lovely 3-day stay at Lost Ledge, this morning it was time to pack up and head south. We have a ferry to catch!
On the road at 0800, we motored south along the windy and hilly Hwy 3A, through Kaslo and to the ferry terminal at Balfour. This ferry is FREE! About a 35 minute crossing of Kootenay Lake. Boy, we certainly have a lovely day for a cruise.
But first we have to visit the Old World Bakery at the ferry landing. Coffee, a cookie and a couple of Chocolate Explosions (for afternoon tea). Okay so you're curious...what the heck is a Chocolate Explosion? Well, picture a Chocolate Croissant, rectangular in shape, on steroids.
Notice how the bridge is round. And in the middle of the ship. Remember these two facts.
When we pulled away from the terminal, we had front row seats. Wrong! We no sooner left the dock that we started heading down the channel at the BACK of the ship. Oh well, I still took some nice pics.
I walked to the front of the ferry.
What I didn't get a picture of, and what caused a brief moment of dizziness for me and a few other people was the dramatic "about face" as we neared the Crawford Bay terminal.
The skipper literally turned the ferry on a dime. I had to hold on; the ship rotated sooo quickly. Now we know why the bridge is round, don't we?!
We stopped in Creston for lunch and a bit of grocery shopping, then hit the road again. The sun was shining; the temperature was 28C – phew!
A long drive came to an end as we pulled into Moyie Lake Provincial Park. The park is set in the trees.
We're here for the weekend then Monday we move to Cranbrook for a week.
See you next time.
