Friday Aug 9                                                      Cloudy & warm                                                     Nelson, BC
After coffee this morning, we drove up the main drag towards the library. The flowering baskets are in full bloom…
In Nelson, we walked to Abacus Beads and lo and behold, the owner was in as was Jen's order.

We walked back to Alfie and Jen suggested we should check out the local brewery – Nelson Brewing Co. We've been enjoying their After Dark ale for some weeks now.

We sampled 4 of their offerings that we had not tried. We really enjoyed their Happy Camper ale – really nice "lawnmower" beer. We tried one brewed with Earl Grey tea – it was okay. The other two were too citrusy – didn't really go for puckering up while quaffing an ale!

Then, north to Nelson. Jen had a couple of beading items she wanted to pick up, and maybe, just maybe,
her order that she placed with Abacus Beads a few weeks ago, might also be in.

The weather was great – a bit of overcast for a change – a change from the brutal heat of earlier this week.
That's 40.2C outside in the shade!

CP Rail follows the highway along the route. I decided this morning, as this will be our last trip to Nelson
for a while that I would stop and take a picture of the rail bridge across the river.
That pretty much brings our travels in the Kootenays to a close. We arrived at here on May 6 but now it's time to start heading towards Vancouver Island.

We've really enjoyed our 3½ months in the Kootenays.

Next Monday we head to Grand Forks. Join us then.
On the way back to Castlegar, Jen suggested an ice cream at Thrum's, just a few clicks north of the park.

Thrum's has some neat art – I thought this was an interesting take on our compass rose.

Back at the park, the flowers continue to display their colours. The staff, now two ladies, keep the grounds absolutely gorgeous. It is like camping in the middle of Butchart Gardens (in Victoria).
