Monday Jul 27 - Thursday Jul 30 Nanaimo, BC
Monday and it's moving day. We head north to Brannen Lake RV where we stayed a few weeks ago.
We left Mountainaire RV just before 11 a.m. We have a couple of hours to kill before we can check in at Brannen Lake, so I decided to drive through downtown Nanaimo and park close to the waterfront promenade.
The main parking lot was pretty full and there was no RV parking anyway so we continued across the Millstone River bridge.
Just on the north side there's a parking lot that we had forgotten about, but a quick loop around the neighbourhood and we got lucky and found a spot for the rig.
After descending a flight of stairs, we walked along the waterfront gazing at the myriad of boats and the occasional sea plane.
We stopped at Javawocky Coffee House and enjoyed a coffee and treat at an outside table, in the shade. It is a hot day!
There are lots of benches along the promenade which come in very handy for Jen. On the way back, we sat on one under a tree and I took a couple of pictures. Notice the decorative artwork on the ground.
A couple of hours later, after a great visit, we said our goodbyes.
Jen & I headed back to Brannen Lake. That's it for today.
We've got a few chores to do tomorrow and we're (hopefully) going to meet up with old friend Ross and meet Fergus his new pup on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning and the weather is superb – sun, a slight breeze – it's going to be a lovely day to meet up with an old friend!
When I turned on my phone this morning, Ross had texted me to say that he made it on the 0630 ferry from Horseshoe Bay.
Jen and I have known Ross since the early '80s when we first met thanks to the CPAir ski club. Boy those were the days!
Anyway we've been trying to get together over the last few months and today is the day. We've arranged to meet at the Colliery Dam park at 1030. We were really looking forward to seeing Ross and meeting his young Bearded Collie "Fergus".
We walked into the park, spotted a picnic table by the water, and enjoyed coffee and a muffin (or two) in the sunshine.
We arrived at Brannen Lake just after 2 p.m. and set up. We have a nice spot in the trees.
