Friday Sep 11 - Sunday Sep 19                                                                                         Whiskey Creek, BC
We've been back at Whiskey Creek for a few days now. We really haven't been up to too much - just working and relaxing.

Some friends have asked about the smoke situation - smoke from the fires on the west coast of the USA - how bad is it??

Well, here are a few pictures taken by the turnoff on Hwy 4:

The only other item of note is our pine cone "bug". I planted it in some dirt, after a few days of resting on a damp paper towel. It seems to be growing; we'll see.
Pretty bad eh, when the excitement of the day is a pine cone "bug" landing on Alfie's back bumper. If you remember the picture a few days ago, it was sprouting already. We just wanted to give it a hand and see what develops.

Saturday (Sep 19)

Just to catch you up on what's been happening recently.

Earlier this week, I finally decided to get my bike off the rack and start using it! I have my friend Bob to thank for my change in attitude. I really enjoyed cycling with him when we visited over the long weekend. I want to continue.

I've been cycling every morning down to the Coop gas station on the Alberni Hwy. It's just over 4 miles round trip. Getting there is great - it's basically all downhill. The return trip is a bit more strenuous but enjoyable.

This morning I cycled my usual route - down the road, right into a new housing development and slightly uphill to the end of the cul-de-sac. On the way there I looked up - WOW, the smoke is gone!
That's the good news. Hopefully the smoke will not return. I continued down the road and took this panoramic shot.
The bad news was that a great model railroader friend of mine - Mac - passed away. He lost his short (thankfully) battle with pancreatic cancer Wednesday. I'll miss him 'cause I was helping him build his new HO scale switching layout. It was very simple, just the way Mac wanted it, basically around the walls of his layout room with a couple of towns, etc.

Mac was a scenery expert. If you are interested, here is a link to some of the pictures of his layout that I took over the last few months.

The last three pictures were taken by Gord LaFleur, a professional photographer in Parksville. They were the final three pictures Mac submitted with his article about his new layout to Model Railroad Planning. His article should be in the 2022 issue.

This coming Monday we move north to Pineridge RV & Farm Market - the final stop for us before we return to Comox for the winter.

As always, if something exciting happens, I will update the blog.
