Saturday, August 20                                                                                Trail, Rossland, Christina Lake, BC
We headed off early this morning for Trail, approximately 30 kms south of Castlegar.
For a Saturday morning, Trail is pretty much devoid of life. The coffee shop by the river, where we were going to take Donna, is closed as is our alternative. We did finally manage to find a cafe that was open. The iced carrot muffins looked good, but whatever they put in the icing - definitely not cream cheese - turned me off. I didn't finish my muffin.

This view from downtown Trail, with the Teck complex in the distance, did not impress our visitor.
Next port of call was Rossland. After a 2,000' climb over 9 kms, we wandered around the town looking for a place for lunch. The hotel restaurant was closed so we tried the Alpine Grind Coffeehouse.
After lunch we drove along Hwy 3B past Red Mountain ski area to Nancy Green Provincial Park. It is located at the junction of Hwy 3. We wanted to show Donna the floor painting at the Christina Lake tourist centre, so we turned left and began a long descent into Christina Lake.

The floor painting is really interesting. When we first visited in 2019, I took some pictures of us standing on the trestle but I neglected to take a picture just of the painted floor, NOT in the location where the floor comes 'alive'. So here's what it looks like as you enter the building. And here it is when a picture is taken from the correct spot.
It took about an hour to climb up and over Paulson Summit and get back to Castlegar.
