Wednesday, Sep 7 Nakusp Hot Springs, BC
This morning we again drove down the hill but, unlike yesterday morning, we continued on Hwy 6 to the turnoff to Nakusp Hot Springs. What followed was a 12km twisty uphill climb to the hot springs.
Neither of us was interested in going into the hot spring itself - we just wanted to see what it was all about.
Jen had read about the bridge across the river valley a short distance from the main area. We wanted to check it out; it looked interesting. Fortunately for Jen, it was not a long walk, but it was certainly worth the effort.
We walked to the lookout area in the middle of the bridge. The river seemed a long way down!
We stayed on the bridge, looking at the fast flowing river for quite a few minutes. Then we headed back to the hot springs building. As we walked past the building earlier I noticed a coffee shop inside.
We ordered coffee and sat inside looking out onto the hot spring pool.
After coffee we headed back down the twisty road, past the airstrip. I pulled over as I noticed a helicopter coming in to land.
Back at Camp Valhalla, I decided to go for a bike ride. I headed north on what was obviously an ATV trail - two tracks and bushes encroaching on the right of way. I turned around and headed back along a nicer trail on the other side of Summit Lake.
Well that trail started closing in on me, so I gave up and headed out to the highway. I thought I would go to Summit Lake Provincial Park just a short distance south of Camp Valhalla and check it out. Here's a picture looking down Summit Lake from the provincial park.
And one looking north towards Camp Valhalla.
Summit Lake Provincial Park is certainly someplace we would stay for a few days. Who knows, we may return one day.
Tomorrow we head to Vernon and Kekuli Provincial Park. Join us then.
