June 07-08 - Prince George, BC

We left Robert's Roost RV Park early Sunday morning and enjoyed a leisurely drive to Prince George. It was nice to be back on the road again - the weather was cloudy but no rain, and the traffic was light.

We arrived in PG well before noon, checked into Sintich RV Park and eventually found a nice spot snuggled in the trees. Later in the day, a couple (Phil and his wife Sam from OZ), pulled into the site next to us. They had driven down from Alaska, heading for Bellingham to turn in their rental camper. We chatted at length about their trip, how far they had come and how far they still had to go. We collectively decided, based on their schedule, that everything was essentially going to be a blur. They left early this morning heading for Cache Creek, about a 5 hour drive.

Jennie, Mattie, and I visited the railway museum in PG today. For a train buff, it was most enjoyable. They have a lot of rolling stock, including one of the "electric" engines (#6001) used on the Tumbler Ridge run (electric was the only way to go because of the length of two tunnels on the subdivision). I climbed into a couple of cabooses - neat, had a look in the cab of#6001 (I shudda been an engineer!!), walked through a couple of coaches - one that was used during Expo 86 to entertain big-wigs and royalty. Because we had M with us (dog friendly museum - thanks!), Jen looked after Mattie while I had a ride on the miniature train. What fun! It was 7 1/2" wide track gauge and the coaches were pulled by a model of #6001.
Then we walked the Nechako River trail. Just like the Fraser, in full flood going like stink!.

It was time for a drink, so we headed to Starbucks.

Then we drove up to UNBC (University of Northern BC). Quite the campus. When it was new (they're celebrating their 25th birthday this year), the view from the campus was terrific. But 25 years of growth meant the trees at the edge of the campus blocked the view - oh well!

It is definitely happening on the university side of the Fraser! New houses, plazas, shops, etc. It's all there. After a bit of shopping, we headed back to camp for Jennie's afternoon rest.

Tomorrow is our last day in PG. We're booked into a couple of RV Parks between here and Chetwynd. More later.
