Apr 28 - Around Lake Coeur d'Alene
We decided today would be a good day to drive the "Scenic Hwy 97" south towards Harrison. We drove east along Interstate 90 for about 9 miles climbing up and then down a large "bump" in the scenery...
This morning was just lovely...the sun was shining and the temperature was starting to climb.
As we are finding, pictures really don't show what the scene is all about - like the one above. I think we probably climbed a couple of hundred feet and then down again. This picture was taken at the top.

We turned right onto the scenic drive - Hwy 97. In the picture below, I90 is on the right and Hwy 97 is on the shore on the left.
As you can no doubt see from the map, Hwy 97 was a bit of deja-vu of Hwy 1 in California for us, me especially
- narrow, twisty, turney, no soft shoulders and indications that the edge of the road had fallen away or was in the process of doing so.
The scenic part of the drive was a bit underwhelming. Separately we both thought of suggesting that we turn around, but we didn't offer that to each other. And I'm glad we didn't. However, when we got to Harrison, 18 miles down the road, I really wasn't keen on retracing our route back up Hwy 97. We stopped and made coffee at the local campground. Here's a shot looking back at Harrison:
After coffee, we continued on to Saint Maries. The drive and the road were much better. At Saint Maries, we stopped at the local cafe for coffee and a muffin.

We hopped back into Alfie. Heading down Hwy 2 towards Hwy 95, we came across this sign:
Then a short distance later, this sign:
Heading up Hwy 95, the scenery changed:
So that's about it for today. Another item ticked off the list.

See you tomorrow.
