There we were yesterday sitting outside Ali at the campground when who should appear but my old chum Gary and his wife Lucy. Gary thought it would be nice to surprise us but Lucy thought he should text us to make sure we were "home". We we were totally blown away - what a really nice surprise - thanks, guys!
Then after a shower, boy it was hot today, we headed to Joan and Sid's place for dinner. What a lovely spot and what a great couple. We had a fantastic time. After dinner, Sid asked if we wanted something to drink, like a Cappuccino. I jumped right in and ordered one. It looked great and it was fantastic.
We arrived at the Dartmouth ferry terminal a few minutes later. Okay, let's find a coffee shop. After a search of the terminal, inside and out, all we found was a Tim Hortons. Pass! Jen and I were both amazed at the lack of anything on the Dartmouth side of the harbour vs. the hustle and bustle on the Halifax side. I don't know what the reason is?!
After a "Brownies on the Moon" ice cream, we boarded our Harbour Hopper and went in the water first then drove around the Halifax Citadel, etc. These amphibious craft are from the Viet Nam war days.
Various ships were tied up including the Corvette "Sackville" (lower pic).
The large white building under the bridge is the Irving Shipyards where they are building the new Navy ships that your tax dollars are paying for.
So, onto today. We drove to the Halifax waterfront, specifically to go on the Harbour Hopper. We bought our tickets then had 2 hours to kill before our trip at 1:30, so we hopped on the ferry to Dartmouth.
One of two buildings at Purdy's Wharf. Dalhousie University designed a cooling system using sea water to cool both buildings. That's why you can see the "straws" supporting the building where the sea water is pumped through.
There were 5 or 6 construction cranes dotted around downtown. So things appear to be really booming. Having lived here for 5 years, we only hope that the good times continue.
