Sep 17 - That's Us Done!
Up and at 'em early this morning, we were on our way to BC Ferries just after 8 a.m. The rain was falling lightly as we left the campground. It got progressively heavier as we got closer to the coast.

We headed for the Tsawwassen ferry terminal - didn't fancy driving to Horseshoe Bay through all the Saturday morning traffic.

We caught the 12:45 ferry and were home in Errington shortly after 4 p.m. in the sunshine.

That brings this leg of our journey to a close. It's been fun
and very interesting. It was really nice to catch up with old
friends and neighbours as well as to see new areas of Canada
and the US.

We really enjoyed Coeur d'Alene where we stopped for nine
days and South Dakota too – I think we may return there -
the Black Hills, the Badlands, the Needles, and the Iron
Mountain road were spectacular! Our trip down Manitoulin
Island and the ferry to Tobermory was delightful. Ontario
was Ontario, pretty busy but our 3 days on Golden Lake, just east of Algonquin Park, was really pleasant. Our two weeks in the Ottawa area flew by as did our days on the Gaspèsie coast of Québec – the weather cooperated which made the views even more spectacular. PEI was enjoyable probably because we stayed away from the tourist areas (that we had visited when we lived in NS). The state of Maine was pretty and very busy along Hwy 1. I don't know how the locals cope during the tourist season?! Boston and Washington were both very interesting. It was just too bad it was so damn hot – most smart people lined up for the "indoor" activities, like touring the Smithsonian, along with hundreds of others.

We escaped the mass of humanity of the east coast and headed west across the great plains of the US. What was really interesting was the gentle "up" slope basically from the Mississippi river to the mile-high city of Denver. We both expected more dramatic hills and climbs, but we were pleasantly disappointed.

Certainly we both agreed we are westerners. You can keep the east coast; the wide open spaces, the scenery, the almost lack of people in most places out west are what we enjoy – not that we're anti-social mind you.

Look for us to start again in the Spring of 2017 when we might venture south to the coast of Oregon and the canyons of Utah. See you then.
