Monday Jul 22 Partly cloudy & muggy Rossland, BC
We visited Rossland again this morning. All sorts of angle parking spots. We happened to park in front of this store. Hmmmm...we wonder whether they really are?!
After a mediocre coffee (we should have ordered a latte or something more than just a regular coffee!) at Alpine Grind, we headed off to the museum. We were there the other day, but Jen was not up for more marching around that day.
There were some interesting info boards in the museum. I hope you can read them. We couldn't believe how many mines there were in and around the Rossland area. I think Jen counted 14!
Can you count the number of mines in the picture above (sorry, but the lighting in the museum wasn't the greatest). There certainly were a lot of them!
The picture below shows a side view of the Le Roi mine, I believe. And if you click on the Thumbnail below, you should be able to read the quantities of minerals that were excavated over the years. For example the Centre Star mine, in 20 years, extracted:
That's 34,646,625 grams of GOLD, 23,147,008 grams of SILVER, and 13,366,167 kilograms of COPPER. Yes, millions!
The Heritage Garden had many herbs, plants, and flowers on display.
There's just a lot of information to absorb and equipment to look at at the museum.
Moving to the outside displays, this Air Compressor is front and center as you pull in to the parking area.
The picture below is Rossland circa 1906
The first building I wandered into had this HO scale model of the Centre Star trestle.
Now we've paid our admission, we can read all about it.
The information board on the front face of the display told an interesting story...
Moving outside there were some vehicles on display...
We enjoyed some "homemade" ice cream then I couldn't resist their chocolates. In the side yard was this sculpture...
The sun was shining and the patio was open! We chatted with our server, Terri, and then enjoyed some spicy Pulled Pork tacos (Jen) and fish & chips (me).
After lunch, we drove back to Rossland and stopped at this wonderful store...
Not much happening in the middle of July around Red Mountain so we headed back to a pub that we had passed on the way to Red Mountain.
Well, it felt like it was getting close to lunch time so we headed back to Alfie. I suggested to Jen that we should take the short drive to the ski area, Red Mountain, and maybe grab a bite there.
The technology of the overhead tramways led to the first chair lift for skiers.
And the proverbial wooden caboose...
I think that's it for Rossland.
We stopped at the Library on the way through Trail and then headed back to the RV park. It was hot again today - 34C.
We'll see you next time.
