Monday Aug 19 Sunny & warm Rock Creek, Beaverdell, BC
On the way out of Midway this morning, we stopped at the sani-dump. Not usually a topic for the blog, we thought you'd like to see the water spigot…
The drive to Rock Creek was about 14 km. There we turned north up Hwy 33 heading towards Kelowna.
We drove through the Rock Creek riverside campground. It was very nice, right on the river, but no services. And, it was a little too early in the day to consider stopping already. We'd only been on the road less than 30 minutes.
A few clicks up the highway we pulled off and made a coffee. A forest fire came through here about 5 years ago. The scenery was pretty dramatic. Can you find Ali?
Such a pretty vista looking down on the Kettle River...
After coffee we continued our drive north.
We stopped in Beaverdell, visited the country store, bought a couple of treats, drove to a rest area and enjoyed our Banana bread and Chocolate Macadamia cookies.
I had thought of checking out Arlington Lake campground, at the end of a 3.5 km gravel road, but the start of the road, just off the highway, looked a little rough. We continued north.
As we reached the outskirts of Kelowna, still up in the hills (2,500'), we passed MacDonald Acres. We turned around and pulled into the RV park. Here's the entrance to the park that came up so quick we missed it the first time.
The owner, Kayle, and I walked to our proposed site, up a slight incline with a tight back-in to the site. Kayle also suggested we could park on the grassy area at the front of the park. I mentioned we really only needed power so we went and had a look. Ahhh, I like this much better than the original site which is all gravel.
The large expanse of green grass, and the view with Okanagan Lake in the distance, was a much better choice.
We are not in a defined site, just parked on the grass. We have 20A power which is all we need.
Tomorrow, we are going to check out Myra Canyon. The trestle area is about 12 km long. I want to bike the trestles in the canyon, something I've wanted to do for a long time.
See you tomorrow.
