Monday Jun 22                                                                                                                   Near Mill Bay, BC
We stopped at Chemainus on the way down the highway. Chemainus is one of our favourite places to stop as the town has dedicated RV parking just a block off the main drag.

We stopped for coffee and a treat. Billy Thomas's portrait never ceases to amaze us. His eyes follow you everywhere!
Well, that was most enjoyable. But now it's time to get back on the road.

A short while later, we pulled into Bamberton Provincial Park and our reserved site #34. Tight to get into (we knew that ahead of time) but no problem -  notice the two large trees on either side of Alfie.
We walked back to Hecate Park where we'd  left Alfie.

Jen found a bench and we sat and devoured some of our baked goodies. It's a good thing we don't live in the area; I'd be the size of a blimp if we did. The pastries were soooo good.
Tuesday (23rd) we drove to Cow Bay and the bakery there.
The arm is healing.
The next day, I had a chance to try out our new toaster for my "elevenses" - peanut butter and honey on rye toast. I picked it up at Cabella's in Nanaimo for less than $6. Quite a bargain - it sure works!!
Backing Ali between those two trees was not a problem. But what was, was that darn rock. As I laid our two patio mats out beside Ali, I walked backwards with the blue one and promptly fell over the damn rock!
Back at camp, the arm continues to heal. Jen says I'm really lucky that I heal so quickly. If this were her, we'd still be trying to stop the bleeding :>)
We drove to Cowichan Station. We thought we had been there before but no. We had it confused with Cobble Hill.

Other than this sign, a single-lane bridge under the old railway line, and a single lane bridge over the river, that was Cowichan Station!
At the end of the walk was this small park with picnic tables and a balance beam affair (that I just had to try).
I climbed the observation platform. Too bad the tide was out.
We walked along the waterfront and read the information boards. (Click on the thumbnail for a larger picture.)
On Thursday (25th), we drove out to Lake Cowichan. We've been there before. Jen suggested we check out the RV parks - it might be nice to visit for a few days. We booked into the Lakeside Campground for 4 nights next month.
We stopped for coffee at Ed's Coffee House. Coffee was good but the chocolate oatmeal cookies (just out of the oven) were scrumptious. I almost went back for another, but then I looked down.

I thought this arrangement of water colours was interesting.
Old town Duncan is very pretty with many older buildings. The newer part, where Hwy 1 "bypasses" the old town, is wall-to-wall businesses, strip malls, gas stations, etc. Driving through Duncan on Hwy 1, at the best of times, is a slow process.

Back at camp, we can't wait to get out of the bedlam that's overtaken the park in the last couple of days. Why is it that little girls have to squeal constantly; why can't they and the other kids play quietly? There are kids everywhere!

Well, that's it for this week. Tomorrow we head about 11km up the Malahat to Malahat Mountain Meadows RV Park. We're booked in for 4 nights.

See you there.
On the drive to Lake Cowichan, I suggested to Jen that we stop at Duncan on the way back and do a walk-about. So we did.
