Today is our friend Donna's last day with us. After the 'hectic' last couple of days, I suggested we drive to the Syringa provincial park.
On the way to the park, we drove past the Hugh Keenleyside Dam. This dam has a navigational lock that allows boats to pass from the Lower Arrow lake to the Columbia River.
Syringa Provincial Park is adding a Butterfly Garden in a turnaround. What an interesting project.
On the way back to KRRV, we stopped to take a closer look at the dam. The outflow was sure churning!
A tug pulling a log boom just came through the lock.
While Jen rested Donna and I drove a short distance to check out some of the hiking trails in and around Selkirk College.
We walked through the forest and along a high ridge overlooking the Columbia River. The bridge in the distance is the one on Hwy 3. We've driven over it many times going into Castlegar, but I've never seen what's holding the road surface up!
Quite an impressive structure!
I drove Donna to the airport at 5 p.m. for her 6 p.m. flight back to Vancouver. We had a great time showing Donna this part of the Kootenays. I think she will return.
That's it for now. Check back later.
