Monday, Sep 5                                                                                                                Slocan & Nakusp, BC
This morning we said goodbye to our favourite RV park. We've been at Kootenay River RV Park for the past 5 weeks. It is time to explore some new territory.

We drove north on Hwy 6 to the turnoff to Nakusp. Here are some pictures Jen took along the way. I hope these give you some appreciation of the beauty of the Kootenays.
We decided to stop in Slocan for lunch. Today is Labour Day; I wonder whether we will find anything open?

Turning off the highway, we headed for Slocan Lake and parked the rig. We walked a path along the lakeshore before finding (yay!) a restaurant that was open.

There were not many people about as you can probably tell by the lack of vehicles in the parking lot

We marvelled at this large sculpture at the side of the path.

We set off again after lunch. The scenery got a little more dramatic as we ventured further along the lake.

At one point, the road had a distinct look of a "back road through the bush".

The scenery continued to be very picturesque.

Summit Lake snuck up on us—we were expecting to climb to it, but there it was. We are almost at Camp Valhalla.

We checked into Camp Valhalla for 3 nights. The weather was clear and bright. The scenery was dramatic.

After dinner, we went for a walk around the park. Here we are at the shore of Summit Lake.

The wasps didn't stand a chance against our electric "tennis racket" bug swatter. (And there were more casualties later in the evening.)

I caught Jen in a pensive moment.

Here is something we did not know.

Via email, our good friend Betty asked, I guess because of the RV park's name — Camp Valhalla, if we saw any Vikings.

Unbelievably, we DID!

Well, at least, we think we did.

Check out the gentleman with the horns and the two people in capes?

They were part of this group that were celebrating something?!
Tomorrow we are going to visit Nakusp. It's about 13 kms north.

We'll see you there!
