We awoke to cloudy skies again this morning. By 9:30 or so, we'd packed up and left Honeyman State Park.
We drove back into Florence to gas up. The gas tank was just about 1/2 full. At $2.19 a gallon, it cost just over $26 to fill up. Yup, I'm movin' to America!!
We were both really keen to see more of the dunes, and get some better pictures, so we stopped in a couple of day parks off Hwy 101. We finally found a spot overlooking the dunes. Pictures are never like being there, but if you look closely, you can see a line of footprints in this picture. You can also see the Pacific in the distance. That's a lot of sand!

We continued our journey down Hwy 101. As we approached the south end of the dunes, we saw this.
By now, as you can see, the sun was shining. Temperature was 20C. We strolled along the waterfront, grabbed a cup of coffee, then headed back to the rig. We drove out to the jetty and took a couple of pictures.
If you look at the size of the trees, you can appreciate how tall that dune is. Click here to see a short video on the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
Looking for a coffee, we drove through North Bend then Coos Bay - no luck! We've seen a lot of coffee "shacks" on our trip so far - just drive up, grab a coffee, and go. But actual coffee shops are few and far between.
As we drove through Bandon, I happened to spot a "Scenic Drive" sign, so off we went a short distance to the waterfront. Wasn't that a great decision!

What a pretty little spot! But we had to leave and get to Camp Blanco in Port Orford.
We arrived just around 2 p.m. After setting up camp, Jen headed in for her afternoon rest, and I hopped on my bike to go find some dinner. I couldn't resist pedalling up the hill that had "Ocean View" painted on the roadway. It was worth the effort, don't you think?!
Griff's had fresh fish AND Dungeness crab - $8.95/lb. A few minutes later I was on my way back with supper (a crab) in the basket!
We've decided to head out in the morning to northern California, probably somewhere in and around Crescent City. So until then...
Port Orford is not that big. The co-op was recommended for seafood but it was all frozen fish. The clerk told me to go to Griff's down on the dock - they have a fresh fish counter.
