Jul 14 - Georgetown & the Elmira Railway Museum
Day 2 on the east end of PEI. We decided to drive to Georgetown just a short drive away to have a look. Well, it's a small village, but they do have a quite remarkable garden.
We headed back to the campground for the rest of the day. Some nice bbq'd chicken and a Caesar salad for dinner. Yum!

See you tomorrow.

Jen waited while I wandered around. There was really nothing to see other than a restored station with Ladies and Mens separate waiting rooms. The museum also has a miniature train that you can ride on as well as a speeder, but I didn't participate. I was interested in seeing the model train layout they had in a separate building. The layout was in the shape of PEI with a single diesel engine (not even a train) running around the layout. What a disappointment!
After the lighthouse we went to the Elmira Train Museum.
Gawd, another lighthouse! Then we saw the ferry to Isle de Madeline off in the distance. It's home port is Souris.
more potato plants in red soil!

We stopped in Souris and had coffee at a little place called Kim's Coffee and Bakery. Good coffee and treats.

Before we hit you know where, we decided to drive to East Cape. We were not alone!

We left Georgetown and headed towards Elmira – you know what's there don't you?! Along the way, we saw
Each planting, tree, bush is a memorial to someone. The gardens were really quite lovely. Such a wonderful idea for a small village.

We were fortunate to speak with one of the two gardener ladies who were cutting the grass. This is her eighth year tending this garden. She mentioned that each Spring, her and her boss plant 1,200 dozen annuals. That's 14,400 plants. As she said: "A lot of knee work."

And it is all thanks primarily to one couple.
