We left York, PA this morning and headed to our friends, Fran & Suze, in Bethesda, MD. On the way, we stopped at Gettysburg to have a look around. What an amazing experience!
After a coffee we walked through the Museum. We could have spent a lot more time here but there is only so much that one can absorb in one go.
The first order of business was the film, "A New Birth of Freedom", narrated by award winning actor Morgan Freeman and the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama, which depicts the final fury of Gettysburg- "Pickett's Charge". The film explained the history of the Civil War. Very well done.
The Cyclorama was impressive both in size and presentation.
Well, it's time to move on. We really enjoyed our visit to Gettysburg. It is an amazing display of history. I still found it hard to imagine what it must have been like for the soldiers during the Battle of Gettysburg.
Back on the road, we are approaching Bethesda, MD.
We hopped back in Alfie and toured many of the places known in battlefield lore- Culp's Hill, McPherson's Ridge, Cemetery Hill, Spangler's Spring, Devil's Den, the Peach Orchard, Little Round Top, and the "High Water Mark" to name just a few.
What amazed us the most was the number of monuments along the drive.
