Aug 30 - Downtown Goodland, KS
What a nice rest day! The weather has finally cooled down. The temperature this morning was 20C (70F), considerably cooler than the 38C (100+F) temperatures we experienced 2 days ago. We were able to enjoy dinner last night outside at the picnic table.

This morning we headed into downtown Goodland for coffee. After a little bit of trouble/effort we found Clark Crossing Co., the local coffee, book, and art store. The coffee was good and the sweet treats even better.

As we left downtown, Jen took a couple of pictures of the road surface - bricks.
Back at the campground, we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon as we watched the distant clouds getting ominously darker. As I write this entry, we are on the backside of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain storm.

Tomorrow we head west to Denver then north to Loveland, CO where we've booked into a campground for a couple of days. Hopefully the weather will improve overnight.

See you tomorrow.

Some of the architecture in town was interesting too.
There's  quite a story behind these brick roads. The man who laid the bricks laid them at the rate of between 120-150 a minute. That's 2 - 2½ bricks a second!  Read all about him here.
