Apr 17 - Table Construction
It's not a big thing to most people, but we are really chuffed how well our new table works.

I made it using some regular Spruce/Fir 2x2s, some construction adhesive, hinges, etc. I stained it (Antique Pine) and finished it with a few coats of satin Varathane.

The table is mounted to a closet rod attached between the "door" opening to our patio (ramp in a level position). In the upright position it is out of the way. In the down position, it functions as a dining table, a work table, a computer table.

I also modified our high-back chair so that the arm drops down so that seating at the table is possible.
The closet rod slips into a retaining clip at each end so when we need to bring Jen's wheelchair inside, it is a simple matter to lift the table out of the clips to provide access. Likewise, it is just as easy to insert the rod into the clips to put the table back, drop the leg, and pivot the table into place.
